We can confirm that the incident at Seaton Meadows Landfill Site has now successfully concluded.

On behalf of all the operational partners involved, we would like to thank local residents and businesses for their understanding while we dealt with the deep-seated fire.

As you can see from the photographs it was a large incident and this type of fire can be difficult to deal with. Thanks to our firefighters, control operators, mechanics, blue light colleagues, and partner agencies we were able to work together to contain and extinguish the fire as quickly and safely as possible.

We understand the impact this incident may have had on our community, and we appreciate your patience, cooperation, and resilience over the last three days.

Your safety remains our priority. We will continue to monitor the site to ensure complete safety and address any residual concerns.

We will also work with the site and partner agencies to understand the cause of the fire.

We remain at the scene of an incident on Seaton Meadows Landfill Site in Hartlepool.

This is a deep-seated fire which involves a large number of tyres and has been on-going for the last three days. This type of fire can be difficult to deal with, but we are working with a range of our partner agencies to manage and monitor the situation.

Our priority is to contain and extinguish the fire as quickly and safely as possible, and ultimately minimise the impact on the environment and nearby residents. We urge the public to follow the advisories issued and to cooperate with us to facilitate a swift and safe resolution.

As a precaution, our advice to local residents and businesses is to keep their windows and doors closed and avoid the smoke plume where possible. If you must go outside, we would advise you to minimise your exposure and limit the amount of time you spend outside. Anyone who has health concerns should seek medical advice or call NHS 111.

Cleveland Fire Brigade are still in attendance at Seaton Meadows Landfill Site in Hartlepool dealing with an ongoing incident.

Crews are working tirelessly at the scene and are continuing to monitor the situation. We have put plans in place to mitigate the smoke, which should reduce in the area throughout the day.

We advise all residents and businesses in the affected area(s) to keep doors and windows closed and minimise time spent outside.

If you must go outside, we would advise you to minimise your exposure and limit the amount of time you spend outside in the smoke. People with asthma who may be in the vicinity of the fire should carry their inhaler.

If you experience any symptoms, please seek medical advice by calling NHS 111. Alternatively, contact your General Practitioner (GP) or if a medical consultant is already treating an existing health condition, discuss your concerns and symptoms with them. In the case of an emergency call 999.

At around 8am on Tuesday (23 January) we were called to Seaton Meadows Landfill Site in Hartlepool following reports that a large pile of tyres were well alight.

Crews remain at the scene today (24 January) and are continually monitoring the situation. At present there are three fire engines in attendance. The nature of the issue means that we will remain on site for some time and there will be smoke in the area for the foreseeable future.

Therefore, our advice remains – all residents and businesses within the area are encouraged to keep doors and windows closed and minimise time spent outside.

If you must go outside, we would advise you to minimise your exposure and limit the amount of time you spend outside in the smoke.
