Yarm is a market town situated on a bend in the River Tees. It is a prosperous town with a wide high street with independent shops, restaurants. The skyline of the town is dominated by a railway viaduct constructed between 1848-52. The town has grown substantially over the past half century, with modern housing, schools and further infrastructure.
Yarm Fire Station provides cover for the town and surrounding areas including, Eaglescliffe and Ingleby Barwick. Yarm station also forms part of the planned response to Durham Tees Valley airport.
Yarm Fire Station is staffed utilising the Retained Duty System. Local residents are also on call firefighters living within 5 minutes travel time of the station. Retained Duty Firefighters usually have other commitments in their local community and wider area, but give a commitment to respond to emergency calls when needed. There is a single fire appliance based at this station.
