During the 2021/2022 Cleveland Fire Brigade were officially rated GOOD in all three areas.

The recognition comes from His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) who carried out a comprehensive inspection of the Brigade, and judged it as:

  • GOOD at effectively keeping people safe and secure from fire and other risks;
  • GOOD at efficiently keeping people safe and secure from fire and other risks; and
  • GOOD at looking after its people.
The results mirror those of the inspection in 2018/2019 with the new report highlighting improvements, including:
 
  • The Brigade has made clear changes to its culture, and has a strong set of
    values;
  • Improvements have been made in recruiting women into operational roles; and
  • Improvements have been made to prevention, protection, and operational response activities and staff productivity has increased to drive efficiencies.

State of Fire and Rescue

This is the HMICFRS report to the Secretary of State under section 28B of the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004. It contains assessment of the sector in England, based on the inspections which were carried out during 2021. This report draws on findings from inspections in the 45 fire and rescue services in England, to provide an overall view of the state of the fire and rescue sector.
