Independent inspectors have highlighted Cleveland Fire Brigade as responding effectively in providing support for the coronavirus crisis.
They noted all the extra work was undertaken while still allowing the Brigade to carry out its statutory duties of prevention and protection.
The review, carried out by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS), examined the Brigade’s preparation for a pandemic, their ability to respond effectively and continue prevention and protection work. It also looked at the health and wellbeing of staff, adaptability to changing the way it works and effective partnership working.
The report highlights how Cleveland Fire Brigade was quick to adapt and respond. This included new ways of working, health and wellbeing of the local community and staff, working with partners and having good working arrangements in place to protect local people.
Work carried out by the Brigade in the first three months of the pandemic included delivering vital PPE equipment, sending food parcels to the vulnerable and providing training for care home staff in infection control.
CFO Ian Hayton said: “I am extremely proud of the way all staff responded to the crisis and showed great willingness, enthusiasm and dedication in adapting to new ways of work to support the fight against the pandemic.
“At all times we showed we were ready willing and able to take on extra responsibilities and work with partners to support and protect both our staff and local communities.
“This work is continuing as we all step up to the mark and show we are a “can do” service that joins everyone in the struggle to control coronavirus and the effects on all our services and community. We are all in this together and we are here to keep our Communities safe.”
