The exercise will take place:
Thursday 10th November 2022; 9.45am – 3.00pm

Gala Bingo Car Park, Teesside Park

Approximately 60 operational staff from Cleveland Fire Brigade, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service will take part in regional training today involving decontamination exercises that will help their crews prepare in the event of a real emergency incident.

As part of the training exercise County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service will be delivering their Mass Decontamination Unit (MDU) along with several fire engines and Tyne and Wear Rescue Service will be bringing their Detection, Identification & Monitoring (D.I.M) vehicle.

One of the exercises will involve over 60 students from Hartlepool College of Further Education completing a dry decontamination activity (a method of removing contaminants without the need to use water or other liquids).

Cleveland Fire Brigade will be bringing along their D.I.M vehicle along with their team of Hazardous Material Advisers (HMA’s) to determine the nature of a substance within a building using specialist equipment.

The training exercises will allow crews to test both their procedures and equipment so in the event of a real-life chemical exposure incident, their organisations are ready to respond.

Steve McAllister, National Resilience Manager said:

“It is imperative that our crews have regular training as it allows us to assess our processes, apparatus, and scenarios in the most realistic settings so in the event of an emergency incident, we can respond in the most proficient and safest way possible should the worst happen.

“We want to make sure people visiting Teesside Park are aware that this is a training exercise and not to be alarmed when they see the exercises taking place. If you know anyone visiting Teesside Park on Thursday, please make them aware.”

The training day will be assessed by the National Resilience Assurance Team.
