An award-winning initiative has been launched today to provide vital support to families and people living in Cleveland who may struggle to stay warm this winter.

With the cost-of-living crisis expected to put significant strain on families this winter, Cleveland Fire Brigade’s annual Stay Safe and Warm campaign is on hand to help those people most at risk.

The scheme, which runs from October 2022 until March 2023 provides people with a free home assessment and provides advice and support on how to stay safe and warm during the cold winter months.

The FREE service, which is now in its 14th year is available for all Cleveland residents who are struggling to keep warm this winter with no age restrictions.

Craig Strike, Head of Prevention and Engagement said: “With the significant increase in fuel costs this winter, now more than ever, our Stay Safe and Warm campaign remains invaluable to residents in our community. We are urging people who may be at risk during the winter months to get in touch, whether it’s a short term fix such as a boiler repair or you simply can’t afford to put the heating on, we are here to help and offer support to our communities at this difficult time.

We would also like to ask individuals to be mindful of any neighbours, friends or colleagues who may be struggling to stay warm, whatever their age, as it’s not just older people who are at risk, especially this year as people from all walks of life will be affected.”

The Stay Safe and Warm campaign is led by Cleveland Fire Brigade and sees many agencies working together to provide advice and support.

Organisations involved include Hartlepool, Stockton, Redcar & Cleveland and Middlesbrough Councils, Middlesbrough Environment City, and the South Tees Affordable Warmth Partnership.

Since 2010 Stay Safe and Warm has helped more than 5,000 people stay warm in their homes throughout winter.
