Cleveland Fire Brigade is urging residents across the area to complete a free Online Home Fire Safety Check – a simple step that could help prevent fires, protect loved ones and save lives.
The online tool provides personalised fire safety advice based on each household’s home, behaviours and lifestyle. It guides users through their home, room by room, helping them spot everyday risks around cooking, smoking, heating and electrical appliances, and offers practical steps they can take immediately.
At the end of the check, users receive a personalised fire safety action plan tailored to their home.
For some residents, the information provided may indicate they could benefit from additional support. In these cases, Cleveland Fire Brigade will contact individuals to offer a free Safer Homes Visit, where trained and friendly staff will visit the home to provide tailored advice, check smoke alarms and help reduce risks.
Head of Prevention and Engagement, Richie Brown, said:
“We know that most fires in the home are accidental – and many are preventable. That’s why we’re encouraging everyone to take a few minutes to complete the free Home Fire Safety Check.
“It’s quick, easy to use, and gives advice that’s tailored to your own home rather than generic tips. Even small changes, like where you charge devices or how you use heaters, can make a big difference.
“The check also helps us identify people who may need extra support. Where appropriate, we can then offer a free Safer Homes Visit to provide additional advice and reassurance in the home. Our priority is making sure support reaches those who need it most.”
You can complete the check for yourself, or for someone else with their permission. You’re also welcome to share the link with friends, family and neighbours who may benefit from extra fire safety advice.
