NEW ASSISTANT CHIEF FIRE OFFICER APPOINTED AT CLEVELAND FIRE BRIGADE

At today’s (Tuesday 16 April) Executive Committee meeting, the Cleveland Fire Authority are pleased to announce they have appointed a new Assistant Chief Fire Officer.

Following a robust and competitive selection process Simon Weastell has been appointed as the latest Assistant Chief Fire Officer for Community Protection at Cleveland Fire Brigade.

Simon, who has been serving in a temporary Assistant Chief Fire Officer role working as the strategic lead for Community Protection will officially take up his substantive post with immediate effect.

Simon brings with him a wealth of experience having served with the Brigade for over 30 years and beginning his career with Cleveland Fire Brigade in 1993 as an On Call Firefighter at Yarm Station.

Speaking upon his appointment, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Simon says: “I am truly privileged to be offered the opportunity to serve the communities of Cleveland as Assistant Chief Fire Officer – Community Protection.

“I am absolutely delighted, proud and humbled to be appointed to this role by the Fire Authority and I would like to thank Members for this opportunity. It is a real privilege to serve the people of Teesside and to work in such a professional and dedicated Service with people that give their all for our communities.

“When I started my career as an On Call Firefighter, I could never have imagined having the incredible opportunities that the fire service has presented me with. I am so grateful for all the support I have received, and for the trust that has been placed in me.

“I’d like to particularly thank everyone who has supported me at home and at work including my wife, Mary and family, friends, and colleagues.

“My focus as Assistant Chief Fire Officer will be on making sure that we continue to deliver the commitments of our Community Risk Management Plan effectively and ensure that the Brigade continues its journey to become an outstanding fire and rescue service.”

Chief Fire Officer Ian Hayton says: “This is fantastic news for our fire service and for the communities that we serve. Simon brings a wealth of experience to this position and his passion, determination, dedication and tenacity will be vital to helping us shape and improve our services. I look forward to working closely with him to achieve this for residents of Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, and Stockton.”

Upon his appointment Simon was congratulated by Chair of the Combined Fire Authority Cllr David Coupe and Vice-Chair Cllr Sufi Mubeen.
