Bag It and Bank It

Your local community fire stations need your old clothes, shoes, bags and linen to boost charity funds, recycling and help under-developed countries.

Through the “bag it and bank it” scheme, items can be deposited at the Brigade’s special clothes banks. Funds raised from collection by recycling partners go to the Firefighters Charity (FFC).

Between April and September last year around 20,478kg of clothing was handed in across the Cleveland Fire Brigade area and raised £4505 for the charity.

Wearable clothing is re-used, usually sold in under-developed countries and any unusable items are recycled for car upholstery, industrial wipes or used in the production of many other products.

Items that can be bagged and taken to the banks include adult and children’s clothing, paired shoes, handbags and linen but not general bric-a-brac.

Dave Gormley, Cleveland Fire Brigade’s FFC’s service coordinator said: “ Your unwanted clothing will make a huge difference to so many people and help provide much needed funds to allow the FFC to continue to provide valuable support for all serving and retired fire service staff, firefighters and their families.

Our clothes banks are located at Headland, Middlesbrough, Skelton, Loftus, Thornaby and Yarm community stations.

The FFC provides specialist, lifelong support for members of the UK fire services community, helping individuals and families to live happier and healthier lives. A broad range of health and wellbeing services are available online and in person as well as rehabilitation support following serious injury.

The FFC is looking for your help to #BagItAndBankIt to raise £100,000 nationally throughout January.
