We offer Safer Homes Visits to people who may be at greater risk from fire. These visits can include our trained staff visiting your home and providing safety advice, smoke alarm checks and fitting free alarms if needed.
The best way to access this support is by completing our free Online Home Fire Safety Check. This will help us understand your needs so we can offer the right advice or arrange a visit if appropriate.
Am I eligible for a Safer Homes Visit?
The best place to start is our Online Home Fire Safety Check, developed with the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), Fire Kills and Safelincs.
The online tool will guide you through your home, room by room, helping you identify potential fire risks and giving you practical advice as you go.
You’ll receive a personalised fire safety action plan based on the information you provide about your home and household.
If your answers suggest you may be at greater risk from fire, your details will be shared with Cleveland Fire Brigade so we can contact you about a FREE Safer Homes Visit. This helps us prioritise support for those who need it most.
You can complete the check for yourself or complete it for someone else with their permission. You can also share the link with friends, family and neighbours who may benefit from extra fire safety advice.
What if I am not offered a visit?
If you’re not offered an in-person visit, it simply means the information you’ve provided suggests your risk is currently lower.
You will still receive personalised advice at the end of the online check to help you keep your home safe.
If you have ongoing concerns or would like to speak to someone, you can contact us on 03067 990038 and we’ll be happy to help. You can also find more practical advice on our Home Safety pages.
Information for partner organisations
Partner agencies, professionals and carers can refer individuals they support for a Safer Homes Visit using Cleveland Fire Brigade’s Safer Homes Visit Referral Form.
Referrals help us make sure our resources are focused on those who will benefit most. All referrals are assessed and prioritised based on risk, so not every referral will automatically result in a visit.
Partners play a vital role in helping us reach people who may be vulnerable or isolated.
