Cleveland Fire Brigade is shining a light on the inspirational women in its workforce to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March.
And with the day coinciding with National Careers Week (6 -11 March) it is a timely reminder to put the emergency service forward as a rewarding career path for women.
The Brigade, a keen promoter of equality and diversity in the workforce, has roles across all areas and departments. These range from On Call and Wholetime Firefighters and Control Room Staff to IT specialists, Fire Safety Advisors and Schools Educations Officers.
The service was recently highlighted as one of the top fire and rescue services in the country by independent inspectors. It was rated GOOD in all areas, including looking after staff.
The report highlighted improvements, including changes to culture, a strong set of values and improvements in recruiting women into operational roles. The theme of the 2023 International Women’s Day is #EmbraceEquity, promoting a gender free world, free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.
National Careers Week aims to promote the importance of good careers education in schools and colleges.
When the report was published, Chief Fire Officer Ian Hayton said “I am delighted that our top priority of putting our people first, looking after their health and wellbeing and training and development has been recognised with a ‘good’ rating for people.”
Cleveland Fire Brigade has recruitment campaigns throughout the year for various roles alongside routine advertising for vacancies.
