What does the Brigade offer?
Our service provides free advice, equipment and referrals if appropriate – with home assessments carried out by a member of the SSAW team, as well as short-term support.
We want to make people feel safe and warm in their home and know that somebody actually cares.
We offer 24 hour, 7 day a week support and respond within an hour of being contacted.
Who is eligible?
There is no criteria other than you or someone you know is at risk of the effects of cold, either long or short term.
For instance, if a boiler breaks down and parts are on order or when a heating system has been condemned and the resident is unable to pay for replacement or repairs.
Some people simply cannot afford to have the heating on or their existing heating supply is inadequate and fails to heat their property.
Our youngest recipient is 16 year old and the eldest is 101.
This service is free to anyone in need who is living in Cleveland and no age restrictions apply.
Remember don’t use candles or unsafe heating equipment as you will put you and your family’s lives at risk.
We aim to:
- work with partners to identify vulnerable members of the community who may be at risk from using inadequate or dangerous forms of heating and lighting
- work with partners to reduce or mitigate the causes of fuel poverty
- support and provide advice to those facing fuel poverty
- provide short term and more sustainable solutions to fuel poverty and related health issues
