Winter check not winter wreck

7668-012-WINTER SAFETYFire stations across Cleveland are holding free and quick multi-point vehicle checks to help keep motorists safe this winter.

The two-minute drive-thru checks include tyres, lights, wipers and fluid levels. Motorists will be offered a free screenwash top up and ice-scrapers with road safety reminders.

Andrew Bright, Learn and Live Co-ordinator with Cleveland Fire Brigade, said: “We don’t want drivers to be caught out when the ice and snow arrives. Our message is: be prepared and be safe. A winter check is better than being in a winter wreck.”

“Our checks and advice are free and motorists visiting the drive-thru check-ups can also get their car washed by firefighters in return for a donation to The Fire Fighters Charity.”

Winter checks and charity car washes take place:

Thursday 26 November :     Thornaby Fire Station, Master Road (10am to 5pm). The Brigade will be supported at the event by Teesdale Tyre & Auto Centre.

Saturday 28 November:       Coulby Newham Fire Station, Bickley Way, (10am to 4pm) This event will have representatives from the British School of Motoring and Middlesbrough Council’s road safety team on-hand to give top tips on winter driving. The event is being supported by Halfords Auto Centres,  Derek Campbells Exhaust & Tyre Centre, National Tyre and Autocare and Middlesbrough Tyre & Auto Centre.
