The current Station Manager at Billingham Fire Station is Steve McCarten. Steve has served in the Fire Service for 20 years and began his career as Firefighter at Grangetown Fire Station Before serving at Stockton Fire Station, Brigade Headquarters, Middlesbrough and Marine Station. Considerable effort has been put into reducing risk in the Port Clarence area, which has been designated as a Fire Safety Zone, this means that there is multi agency partnership working together to resolve problems in the community. The station has achieved a 90% uptake of HFSC's in this area using the provision of deep fat fryers in exchange for old chip pans as part of an incentive scheme. In addition, residents have been provided with free domestic fire extinguishers, fire blankets and fused extension leads to minimise fire risk in the home.
A multi agency meeting takes place every two weeks to allocate resources in to the area to tackle a variety of problems eg street wardens, anti social behaviour team, enforcement officers and youth workers.
