Middlesbrough District provides services to approximately 135,000 residents in around 60,000 homes and a number of commercial properties spread across 23 wards.
Economically, the town suffers higher than average deprivation with a comparatively low wage local economy and fewer economically active people than regional or national averages. There are also high levels of rented social housing and a lower level of owner occupation than local and national averages.
A large multi-cultural population, speaking around 50 languages, makes Middlesbrough one of the most diverse communities in the North East.
Despite these challenges the town is regenerating its communities and forging ahead with urban and environmental regeneration creating new employment opportunities and high quality green and open spaces.
All this places increased pressure on Middlesbrough District’s service delivery making its operating area one of the most challenging communities in the North East to deliver fire and rescue services to. It does this through three fire stations:
