Whatever it Takes
The initiative, which aims to improve community safety and quality of life in some of the town's key wards (Gresham, University and Middlehaven wards), is now being extended to cover the Grove Hill area.
It involves us working closely with the Safer Middlesbrough Partnership, and a number of local organisations and local businesses who all have a common interest in improving the safety and quality of life of local residents.
For example as well as carrying out free home fire safety checks and supplying free smoke alarms to reduce the risk of fire, we work closely with Middlesbrough Primary Care Trust (PCT) on accident prevention, smoking cessation and encouraging healthier eating. We recognise the home as the place accidents are most likely to occur.
For example while doing home fire safety visits we point out potentially dangerous fire hazards in the home as well as those from slips, trips and falls.
We also work closely with the PCT to encourage smoking cessation to reduce someone’s chance of having a house fire as well as to improve their health.
And because most house fires start in the kitchen, we urge people to give up frying chips in chip pans, and use healthier and safer options such as oven chips or a thermostatically controlled deep fat-fryer.
We help the PCT to improve the general health and well being of people in the area and help reduce serious house fires and injuries at home.
If you think you can help us to improve the initiative, or if you would like to sponsor or get involved with the initiative from a business point of view please contact Middlesbrough Fire Station.
