Older Person's Advocate's are
• Specially trained to promote fire safety messages to older members of the community.
• Help increase the ownership of free fitted smoke alarms and Home Fire Safety Visit for all homes.
• Help identify individuals whom may require a specialist alarm because of sensory loss.
Older Person Advocates
• Work closely with key agencies to assist in reducing any none-fire related risks for the individual.
• Visit individuals and groups to help deliver the Cleveland Fire Brigade safety messages.
• Promote the role of the fire service and increase fire awareness.

- There are over 100,000 Older Persons living within the Cleveland area, (Tees Valley Joint Strategy unit, 2001).
- Statistics have shown that 60% of all domestic fires involve the over 60's

Three-quarters of the properties where fatalities have occurred did not have a working smoke alarm.
