Cleveland Fire Brigade employs a team of Fire Safety specialists - Advocates, who are based at Headquarters in Hartlepool but provide services throughout Hartlepool, Stockton, Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland.
Their aim is to reduce the risk of fire for vulnerable people.
The team of Advocates has been put together to help reduce fire related risks to groups of people who Cleveland Fire Brigade feel may have a higher risk from fire than other groups.
Cleveland Fire Brigade offers a Home Fire Safety Visit (HFSC) service to all residents in the Cleveland area. This is carried out by operational crews who help identify fire hazards, provide fire safety advice, assist with fire planning, and will, if necessary fit FREE smoke alarms. The whole service is totally free. To book an appointment, ring 01429 874063, minicom 01429 874053 or click here.
The objectives of the Advocates team are to ensure that every resident in Cleveland has the same access to Cleveland Fire Brigade services.
They do this by:
-
increasing the take up of Home Fire Safety Visit by generating referrals and, where necessary, assisting station based personnel to conduct the checks
-
exploring partnership opportunities with agencies who also work with specific groups to produce joint initiatives which promote Home Fire Safety Visit referrals but which can also lead to increased access to services from other organisations
