Firesetter Intervention - Information & Advice
Each year many families have their home or part of their home destroyed by fire started both accidentally and deliberately by children.
Cleveland Fire Brigade has a professional team who are trained to educate children/ youths from 3 to 18 years of age (
details of Firesetter programme) , in the dangers and consequences of playing with fire to themselves, their family and their homes.
This service is carried out in your own home so that we can also advise on a fire escape plan and fit a FREE smoke alarm if necessary.
This service is FREE of charge.
Fire setting behaviour should be recognised and dealt with as early as possible to ensure it does not continue into adulthood.
Some tell-tale signs of firesetting behaviour:
- Small, hidden burn marks in carpets, bedding and clothing.
- Charred paper in sinks or waste bins.
- A smell of smoke on a child/young person or their clothing.
- Matches or lighters hidden in your child's bedroom or property.
