This is a mult-agency approach to reducing risk in the community by improving the environment and living condtions of local residents in selected parts of each fire brigade or fire and rescue area.
In Cleveland we operate in the central Middlesbrough area in four wards:
- Gresham
- Middlehaven
- Ayresome
- University
Staff visit other partnership organisations in these areas to reduce fire and other related risks by making improvements in the living condtions for local residents.
Since October 2006 the Whatever it Takes approach has led to a 90% uptake in home fire safety visits, which will significantly improve the fire safety of local residents.
This intiatiave is being introduced to each local authority area. Each local authority has adopted the Whatever it Takes approach and will operate their own programmes.
