Arson reduction

Deliberate firesetting imposes significant costs on the local economy. Commercial fire losses due to arson are more than just financial.

Deliberate fires can result in deaths and injuries to staff and firefighters.

A relatively minor commercial fire at crucial stages of production can mean:

  • large losses for firms

  • business interruption or even closure

  • loss of jobs

  • the loss of facilities or amenities for the wider community.

Even a small deliberate car fire can cost local council tax payers several thousands of pounds.

Tackling arson is not just a priority for Cleveland Fire Brigade, but also across a range of partner agencies such as the Police, Crown Prosecution Service, Forensic Science Service, Local Authority partners and local businesses.

For this reason we are part of the Arson Control Forum. The Forum was established in 2001 and provides a cross agency approach to reducing arson.
