Following a fatal house fire in the Crooksbarn area of Stockton, Cleveland Fire Brigade will this weekend be on hand to offer fire safety advice to residents.
Phil Lancaster, Director of Community Protection at Cleveland Fire Brigade, said: “Following a fatal house fire in Shearwater Lane, Stockton, on Saturday, 17 October, our crews were on the scene of this incident four minutes from receiving the call. We located and rescued one person from the fire very quickly before assisting the ambulance service with emergency medical care.
“Tragically those efforts were not enough to save this person’s life. This is a tragic death and our thoughts are with the family.
“Fatal house fires are a rare occurrence in Cleveland and we work very hard to make sure they remain rare. We are undertaking an investigation of the cause of the fire and early indications suggest the fire resulted from unattended cooking.
“Our staff will be maintaining a visible presence in the Crooksbarn area this weekend to give people advice on preventing fires in their homes.
“We will be offering free Home Fire Safety Visits and installing smoke alarms where appropriate.”
