Students from across Cleveland will be attending Cleveland Fire Brigade’s hard hitting ‘Learn and Live’ road safety show as part of road safety charity Brake’s National Road Safety Week (17-23 November).
Learn and Live Road Safety Sessions are being delivered all next week at our Further Education Colleges, plus on the Thursday 20th November there will be an extrication display at Middlesbrough College involving some of the performing arts students who will be acting as casualties. Cleveland and Durham Police Specialist Operations and members of the Local Authority Road Safety team will also be in attendance promoting road safety.
Each year the Brigade delivers their hard hitting Learn and Live Road Safety presentations to our further education college students across Teesside area supporting the Brake Road Safety Week.
Members of Cleveland Fire Brigade, Cleveland Police and the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) will be delivering advice to students to help them stay safe on the road and will be promoting Brake’s “LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER” message.
Andrew Bright, Cleveland Fire Brigades Learn and Live Co-ordinator highlights that: “Young and inexperienced drivers fall into a high risk category for road related risk and can be put in increased danger as a result of peer pressure. Friends can made a big contribution to road safety by being good mates and looking out for each other on the roads.
“Students will learn about the ‘Fatal Four’ which are key causation factors for injury and death on the road – these include, excessive speed, distracted driving, seat belt non-compliance and alcohol and drugs.”
Over 70,000 students in the Cleveland area have seen the Learn & Live Road Safety programme since its introduction
