CLEVELAND Fire Brigade will be opening its doors for an action packed day of fun for all the family next week (Thursday 1 August).
The Open Day will take place at the Brigade’s Learning & Development Centre, Church Lane/Trunk Road, Grangetown, Middlesbrough between 11am and 4pm. Click to view directions
A whole host of demonstrations and activities will be on offer throughout the day, as well as advice and information on how to stay safe.
Firefighters will demonstrate how they free motorists following a road traffic accident, rescue people from buildings, as well as showing specialist skills to rescue people using line rescue and hydraulic platforms. There will be a range of Brigade vehicles and visitors will be able to experience what it’s like to wear a breathing apparatus mask.
Fun will very much be the order of the day as youngsters will get the chance to spray water from a firefighters hose. Other activities include games and activities, a climbing wall and tag rugby.
Visitors will also have the chance to ride a ‘smoothie bike’ where fruit, courtesy of Tesco, is put into a blender and people pedal the exercise bike to create their very own smoothie to drink.
Chis Chisholm, Head of Learning and Development with Cleveland Fire Brigade, said: “These events are always popular and are part of the Brigade’s ongoing work to forge strong links with local communities and promote fire prevention.
“We held a similar event last year which attracted around 2,000 visitors and we are hoping for a good turnout again this year. Admission is free and it gives families something extra to do during the school holidays.
“We have put together a varied programme of activities to suit all ages and it should be a great day.”
The event is supported by the Redcar & Cleveland Community Safety Partnership. For further information about the event call 01642 456511.
