Cleveland Fire Brigade is providing an opportunity for local, young people in the Redcar andEast Clevelandarea to turn their lives around.
People aged 16 – 25 years old are invited to take part in the next Prince’s Trust Team Programme which gets under way on Monday 21 January 2013.
The free, full-time, 12 week programme offers the opportunity to meet new friends and work together to carry out a range of tasks which will benefit local communities. Team members who complete the course successfully will gain a Prince’s Trust Certificate in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills which is a nationally recognised qualification.
The programme consists of a one-week residential team building exercise, carrying out a community project, a work placement and a team challenge. Other support is also offered, including help with CVs, job searching and identifying opportunities for progression such as apprenticeships.
Mick Jones, Cleveland Fire Brigade’s Youth Engagement Co-ordinator who is the Team Leader for the course said, “The Prince’s Trust Team Programme enables participants to experience a sense of achievement which inspires them to move forward with new confidence and ambition.
“Lots of people who have attended previous courses have gone on to achieve great things and many have commented that it has kick-started their lives.”
A taster day is being held on Thursday 17 January at Grangetown Fire Station’s Learning and Development Centre for those who express an interest in the programme to find out more.
National data shows that 70% of unemployed young adults who successfully complete this programme go on to find a job, education or training within three months.
Those attending the course also have the chance to gain several additional qualifications including the Basic First Aid Certificate, NVQ Key Skills and Fire Awareness Certificate.
Young people who claim benefits are usually able to continue claiming whilst taking part in the Prince’s Trust Team Programme. Help is also available with travel expenses.
