Open Day to mark fire station’s 1st birthday

Redcar Community Fire Station

The people of Cleveland have a chance to view the area’s first community fire station this weekend (Sunday 9 September) exactly one year on since the state-of-the-art building was officially opened.

Redcar Community Fire Station on the Trunk Road, Redcar was officially opened on the 9th September 2011 following a £1.4m re-building programme.

The new building incorporates The Fire Escape, a special facility including community and training rooms which are used by a range of partner organisations to help children and young people across the Redcar and Cleveland area.

The free Open Day between 11am and 4pm will include a range of demonstrations and attractions to suit people of all ages as well as fire safety advice.

Firefighters will demonstrate how they free motorists following a road traffic collision and carry out other demonstrations including how a chip pan can easily catch fire.

Visitors will also be able to sit in a fire engine and see the Brigade’s fire boat which is used in water-based fire and rescue incidents.

Other attractions on the day include a climbing wall, water fun with hoses, sports activities and a barbeque.

Helen Williams, Cleveland Fire Brigade’s Children and Young Persons Services Manager said: “The fire station is at the heart of the community and this is a great chance for local people to come along and see for themselves the excellent facilities they have on their doorstep.

“We’ve put together a fun-packed programme of activities to keep people entertained throughout the day and it’s also a good opportunity for the Brigade to spread its key safety messages to local people.”

To help keep you and your family safe from fire, the Brigade provides free Home Fire Safety Visits and will fit smoke alarms if needed. Call 01429 874063 to arrange a visit to your home and you will receive specific fire safety advice for you and your family.
